Appraising rugs or carpets is a highly-skilled task and is always best done by an individual or a company with specific in-depth knowledge of the factors that contribute to their value and origin.

Namely, we have 3 different kinds of Appraisals:

  1. Single Appraisal (click to view an example)
This type of appraisal is suitable for submitting to the insurance company for coverage in the event of loss.

  1. Catalog Appraisal (click to view an example)
This is a descriptive appraisal that will point out colors, and design elements. It will also provide historic information about the type of rug that it is.

OUSHAK CARPET - RUG NO. 1567-10 – SIZE 9.1 X 11

The elegance in this weaving lies in the geometry of design one associates with period Oushak carpets.

Longitudinal, highly stylized floral devices protect the demi-bloom that is attached to the artisan’s cloud band image and surrounds the equally dimensional central motif.

The ground of antique rose pink sets the stage for the rich yellow gold throughout the main as well as the ground that frames the same.

The border is characteristic of early Turkish weaves with the rectilinear devices and flowering blooms that use to the best advantage unblemished wools with both the soft antique and deep rose pinks.

A fine example of weaving by skilled masters.

  1. Institutional Appraisal (view/opens a new window)
This is done on an excel spreadsheet. Typically there are numerous rugs with various conditions. These type of appraisal are for Insurance, Museum, and Dealer inventory.
